The Australia India Film Council (AIFC) and the Federation of Indian
Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) have formalized their
commitment to bolstering collaboration in the film industry with the signing
of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Cannes Film Festival.
This agreement, which coincided with India's status as the country of honor
at the festival, sets forth a framework for enhancing cooperation, promoting
co-production ventures, and fostering cross-cultural partnerships between
Australia and India.
The signing of the MoU comes at a time when the Australian Government
has announced an in-principle Audio-Visual Co-production agreement with
India, signaling a commitment to deepening ties and expanding
opportunities for collaboration between the two countries in the field of
filmmaking.
Leena Jaisani, assistant secretary-general and head of FICCI's
entertainment division, sees the MoU as a significant step towards fostering
greater collaboration and synergy between the Indian and Australian film
industries. She believes that this partnership will not only lead to creative
excellence but also bring about economic benefits by strengthening the
Indian-Australian connection through film.
Overall, the signing of the MoU between AIFC and FICCI marks a
promising development in the ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral ties
and promote cultural exchange through the medium of cinema.
